Meet Our Veterinarians

People often ask me why I became a veterinarian. I don’t think there was any single factor that influenced me, but I know it was my career dream since I was very young. I can remember trying to pick classes in the eighth grade that would help me to get into vet school. One of my older brothers is a veterinarian and I’m sure he influenced me. It seems veterinary medicine is becoming a family tradition as both of my daughters are now veterinarians and one of my grandsons is currently expressing a desire to join the ranks.

I have always believed in being an advocate for the weak and disadvantaged, so helping animals fight disease is a perfect fit. I also love the fact that in medicine, every day is different. I love developing relationships with our clients. Many of our clients have seen my life evolve from young father of four to a grandfather of two. Life has presented me with many challenges and adventures that I enjoy sharing with others for their amusement and benefit. My staff always harasses me that once someone gets me going I talk way too much. I like teaching clients about their pet’s problems so they can better understand and manage them. I love being a veterinarian.

Even though I graduated from Colorado State University over 37 years ago, and I have practiced on Hilton Head for over 34 years, I am still ecstatic about our present and future. I have practiced veterinary medicine longer in this area than anyone else in the history of Hilton Head/Bluffton and I look forward to practicing for another 20 years. I purchased the Mathews Drive practice in 1985. I purchased a second practice on the Palmetto Bay Road office in 1998. In 2011 I merged the two island offices and opened our office in Okatie. I believe in offering our clients the most services, the best and most convenient facilities, and the best value in pet care. If you are one of our clients, thank you so much for your allowing us to care for your cherished furry family member(s). If you are not yet a client, please come join us as we continue to grow.

I was born and raised in Littleton, Colorado. From a very young age, I was obsessed with animals and knew I wanted to be a veterinarian. At age 15, I started volunteering at the Denver Zoo. This was the beginning of an exciting 12 years of various volunteer, internship, and paid positions there, all while attending school. During undergrad, I also worked at the local humane society. After getting my Bachelors in Biological Science with a minor in Biomedical Science from Colorado State University, I got a job as veterinary assistant and continued working there after getting accepted back to my Alma Mater for veterinary school in 2010. During veterinary school at CSU, I studied large, small, and exotic animal medicine. Halfway through vet school I spent a month in South Africa living in the “bush” and learning about veterinary care of the native wildlife. During my last two years of veterinary school, I was fortunate to get month-long veterinary internships at three different zoos.

Graduating in 2014, I jumped on the opportunity to move to Hilton Head Island and began working at Hilton Head Veterinary Clinics, where I have been ever since. I love working with dogs, cats, and exotic animals such as small mammals, birds, and reptiles. My own pets include 3 dogs, 3 cats, 4 snakes, 2 birds, 3 lizards, 2 sugar gliders, 2 aquatic turtles, and a tortoise. Many of these found their own way to me in need of a good home. I have a soft spot in my heart (and in my home) for “special needs” pets.Outside of work, I love spending time with my fiancee, family, friends, and pets. I enjoy traveling, playing piano, reading historical fiction novels, trying new restaurants, visiting zoos, and staying fit. I also like watching football (NFL), shows like Forensic Files, and am shamelessly hooked on the Bachelor/Bachelorette series. When I get back home to Colorado for a visit, I love to hit the slopes, as I was once an avid snowboarder and catching up with my family and friends. However, I have settled into life in the low-country quite well, and I appreciate the laid-back atmosphere, the culture and scenery, and being able to take my dogs to the beach whenever I want. By far, the best part of living and working here is my wonderful coworkers, clients, and patients!

Meet Our Staff

I was born and raised in Ohio, but have been living here in Bluffton since 2008 after I graduated college. I have been vacationing on HHI since I was little and always dreamed of living here. I have an Education degree from Bethany College, and have taught in a Special Education classroom for years, but have always had a bigger passion to be able to work with animals and help in anyway I can. Growing up I lived next door to a Veterinarian, who had several pets and farm animals, which sparked my love of animals very early on. I have been working here at Hilton Head Veterinary Clinics, since May 2017 and love the clinic and learning as much as I can about the field. I have two shih-tzu furbabies of my own that I absolutely adore, named Ali and Bronson. I spend the majority of my time, not spent at work, snuggling and taking pictures of them. I love getting to come to work everyday and help all of the sweet animals that come into the clinic daily, and building relationships with all of the clients.

I grew up in a small town in Northern New York and just recently found my way down here to South Carolina. I decided to trade in the snow for humidity and sunshine – most of the time anyways. As long as I can remember, I’ve had an interest in animal care – though, until recently, I’ve been around large livestock animals more until I began working in small animal practices. I have a Bachelors Degree from the State University of Fredonia, and may one day decide on attending veterinary school. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time outdoors, with family and friends, as well as my dog, Pebbles.

I was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina. Growing up in “horse country” on several acres of land helped develop my love for animals at a young age. My family acquired animals of all different ways of life throughout the years, further fueling my passion for animal care. I moved to Beaufort in 2017 and just recently found my way into the veterinary field. Every day I spend helping animals is a fulfilling learning experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything else. When I’m not working, I enjoy exploring the outdoors, reading, and snuggling with my cat, Simba.

I started working here at Hilton Head Veterinary Clinics in the beginning of summer 2019. Prior to that, I shadowed Dr. Wenkheimer in high school as much as I could. I am currently on my second year of college, hoping to fulfill my dream of becoming a veterinarian. Animals hold a huge place in my heart. With that being said, the veterinary field is definitely for me. I love interacting with the community, as I grew up here on Hilton Head Island. When I have free time, I like to snuggle with my cats, “Marlo” and “Jasper”, go swimming, or read a good book.

My family moved to Hilton Head when I was 8 years old. My mother was the first person to influence my love for animals. Growing up, we had a variety of animals – from birds and rodents, to cats and dogs. I was in charge of feeding and cleaning them. I didn’t mind the responsibility because of how much I adored every single pet. As I got older, my love for animals fueled my interest in the veterinary field. I applied to Hilton Head Veterinary Clinics 4 years ago and they took a chance on me. It is a privilege to work next to Dr. Dixon and Dr. Wenkheimer and learn new things every day here at the clinic. I have a wonderful dog of my own named Willis.

I am from Southeast Georgia but have moved all over the US due to my husband’s military service. My family and I moved to Beaufort, SC in 2018 when he received orders to be stationed at MCRD Parris Island. After being a stay at home mother for 7 years and obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, I decided to re-enter the workforce. Even though my degree specializes in Legal Advocacy and Justice Studies, I’ve always wanted to advocate, whether it be for humans or animals. Working here at Hilton Head Veterinary Clinics has allowed me to fulfill that passion. When I am not working, I have a 9-year-old son and 2 fur babies who keep me busy at home. Garfield is an orange tabby we rescued in 2013 and Jaxx is a lab mix we rescued in 2018. Both enjoy lots of treat and cuddles!
