January 2012 brought me to Hilton Head Island and to HHVC as a veterinarian! I received my undergraduate degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University, and my DVM from Ross University after completing a year of clinical studies at Texas A&M Veterinary College. I have worked in the veterinary field for the past 11 years and have been practicing as a doctor for the past year and a half. I have 2 dogs, a blue pit bull and a Chinese pug, as well as a domestic short hair cat. Outside of work I enjoy playing/coaching soccer and fishing.
People often ask me why I became a veterinarian. I don’t think there was any single factor that influenced me, but I know it was my career dream since I was very young. I can remember trying to pick classes in the eighth grade that would help me to get into vet school. One of my older brothers is a veterinarian and I’m sure he influenced me. It seems veterinary medicine is becoming a family tradition as both of my daughters are now veterinarians and one of my grandsons is currently expressing a desire to join the ranks.
I have always believed in being an advocate for the weak and disadvantaged, so helping animals fight disease is a perfect fit. I also love the fact that in medicine, every day is different. I love developing relationships with our clients. Many of our clients have seen my life evolve from young father of four to a grandfather of two. Life has presented me with many challenges and adventures that I enjoy sharing with others for their amusement and benefit. My staff always harasses me that once someone gets me going I talk way too much. I like teaching clients about their pet’s problems so they can better understand and manage them. I love being a veterinarian.
Even though I graduated from Colorado State University over 34 years ago, and I have practiced on Hilton Head for over 31 years, I am still ecstatic about our present and future. I have practiced veterinary medicine longer in this area than anyone else in the history of Hilton Head/Bluffton and I look forward to practicing for another 20 years. I purchased the Mathews Drive practice in 1985. I purchased a second practice on the Palmetto Bay Road office in 1998. In 2011 I merged the two island offices and opened our office in Okatie. I believe in offering our clients the most services, the best and most convenient facilities, and the best value in pet care. If you are one of our clients, thank you so much for your allowing us to care for your cherished furry family member(s). If you are not yet a client, please come join us as we continue to grow.
Earl Adams is a true Islander. He was born and raised in Beaufort County. He is fortunate to have a large family nearby. Earl has been employed by Hilton Head Veterinary Clinics since 2003. Prior to a brief hiatus from the animal care profession, he was employed by the two previous owners of our South Island location from 1980 to 1990. Earl shares his home with 2 dogs (Missy and Lulu) and his cat Simba. Earl’s is very calm and soft spoken which allows him to make friends with even the most insecure guests.
I recently became a Veterinary Technician at HHVC. Growing up with ducks, ferrets, a pot belly pig, birds, fish, lizards, mice, hamsters and the usual dog and cat, I’m not surprised at having a job that is all about animals. Having always wanted a pug since seeing them on Animal Planet I now have one – my 3 year old pug named Lola Bean. I grew up in Connecticut but moved to this area where I have family. I love the hot weather and the southern hospitality! My interests and hobbies are going to the beach and dog parks with Lola, reading, baseball, fishing and hiking.
I have been involved in Veterinary Medicine for 6 years. Although I have had positions in other fields I continue to return to Veterinary Medicine where I am the happiest – I actually enjoy waking up and going to work! I have a true passion for helping and loving animals. I’m known for rescuing any and all animals adding to my furry family at home. I now have 3 dogs: Kane (pit bull), Razzor (pit bull), Munchkin (pomeranian), two cats: Maggie (calico), Twitchy (grey tabby), and a few chickens! Born and raised in the South Carolina low-country when not working I love being on the river in our boat crabbing, fishing…..or anything that deals with salt life.
I recently moved to the area from Atlanta, GA. I have been a Vet Tech at HHVC since December 2011. I am relatively new to the field of Veterinary Medicine coming from a retail background although I love animals and have always wanted to work in this field. I have discovered this is where I need to be. I love my job and working with Dr. Dixon and all the staff here at HHVC. I also enjoy meeting all of our clients and their pets. Dr. Dixon recently signed me up for an animal health and nutrition class online. I have learned a lot so far not only through the class but working hands-on in the office everyday. I’m looking forward to learning much more and continuing to grow to benefit the clinic, clients and the patients.
